The parade entitled “The Happiest Show on Earth” took place in the iconic setting of Disneyland in Anaheim, California.
On the evening of 7th March, Opening Ceremony presented their “Spring 2018” collection that is inspired by Mickey Mouse, the iconic Disney character who is celebrating his 90th birthday this year.
Inspired by the Californian origins of the founders of the brand, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, and by the imaginative Disney creations that characterise the mood of the Opening Ceremony, the show presented the brand’s Spring 2018 collection, which included a collaboration with Disney in celebration of Mickey Mouse.
This fashion show marks the launch of the campaign Mickey Mouse True Original, a global celebration of Mickey Mouse, of his heritage, his personality and his iconic status in pop culture. The festivities include collaborations with fashion brands that are just as original and iconic, not to mention events that take on the impact of Mickey Mouse in the past, present and future. For this event, Disneyland opened its doors to guest a fashion show for the first time in 40 years.
The show took place in Toontown, the Disney village situated in Disneyland where Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Donald Duck and Goofy love. Mickey and Minnie took to the catwalk wearing Opening Ceremony branded clothing and the show was brought to life by the presence of Mickey’s Soundsational Parade. Ezra Rubin a.k.a. Kingdom, old friend of Opening Ceremony, composed the music for the show inspired by the classic Disney song “It’s A Small World”, from the Fantasia soundtrack, originally played by the Philadelphia Orchestra.
The collection, that is made up of male, female and unisex clothing, combines the classic Disney iconography with a touch of luxury. For the female line, Opening Ceremony brings the vintage Mickey Mouse style back, transforming his fun style with unconventional prints on silk dresses, trousers in taffeta and popelin skirts. Other pieces use the outline of Mickey Mouse, such as a jacquard skirt with black and white sequins, typical colours of the character, and a popelin dress with circular sleeves that mirror the character’s famous ears. Trousers and denim jackets are endowed with embroidered applications of the names of cities that are home of the main Disney theme parks, next to the Opening Ceremony logo. The male and unisex clothing lines are made up of Nylon tracksuits, casual twill trousers with a scribble effect and the Mickey Mouse silhouette not to mention a wool college jacket with distinct Disney and Opening Ceremony style.
Some of the selected articles from the Mickey Mouse collection are already available at shopdisney.com, OpeningCeremony.com and in the Opening Ceremony stores, while the remaining ready-to-wear garments are set to arrive in November.
